Read full newspapers online, including The Bellingham Herald

Read The Bellingham Herald online, in full-page format, the same day it is published, free-of-charge with your library card.

We are pleased to provide free, timely, full-image online access to several Washington newspapers – including The Bellingham Herald – thanks to the Washington State Library.

The Washington State Library has a trial underway for public libraries that includes a convenient and timely new format for accessing newspapers. It allows library cardholders to log in and read each day’s newspaper online as if it were the print edition.

This service allows no-waiting access to each day’s newspaper. Every night newspapers provide each page of the coming day’s paper, and Newsbank (a provider of various library digital services) makes those files available online. Every page of the print version is available, including the advertisements.

This trial is offered free-of-charge to Washington libraries through 2020 at no additional charge to participating libraries. The Washington State Library is providing and financially subsidizing this service, and expects to reduce the subsidy to individual libraries in the years ahead.

The Seattle Times was made available in 2019 as part of this trial service. For 2020, five additional newspapers have been added and are available now: The Bellingham Herald, Tacoma News Tribune, The Olympian, The Kitsap Sun, and The Tri-City Herald.

Access requires library card log-in (Bellingham Public Library barcode and PIN). The coverage includes the current issue and back issues into 2018.
