Using Curbside Holds Pickup Services at Bellingham Public Library

What is Curbside Holds Pickup?

While our library buildings are not currently open to the public for indoor services or in-person browsing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Bellingham Public Library provides materials through Curbside Pickup.

Items on hold at our Barkley and Fairhaven Branches, as well as holds for Bellingham Technical College, Western Washington University, and Whatcom Community College, are available for pick up by appointment at the Central Library, 210 Central Ave., Bellingham, WA.

For your safety and ours, pickup services are contact-free. We ask that all users maintain appropriate physical distancing (6 feet) and wear a face-covering while picking up holds.

Step 1: Request Items

Browse the Library catalog online and place items on hold using your library card barcode and PIN. You can also call the library to request items at 360-778-7323.

Step 2: Wait until your items are ready for pickup

You’ll receive a notice by phone, email, or text when your items are ready for pickup. You can also log into your library account to view the status of your requests. Items that are ready for pickup will show as “Held.”

Step 4: Pick Up Your Holds

Come to the Library during your scheduled pickup appointment hour. If we’re serving others at the pickup table, please form a line (appropriately distanced). Give staff the account name that you are picking up for. Materials will already be checked out, bagged, and waiting at the appointment time. Please let staff set the items on the table to ensure that service is contact free.

Curbside Holds Pickup Service FAQs

It’s okay! We’ll keep your items checked out and waiting for pickup for one full day. Come to the library within 24 hours and let us know when your scheduled appointment was (this allows us to quickly locate your bag of materials).

At the end of the day following your appointment, items that have not been picked up will be checked in.

  • Arrive at the library during your scheduled pickup time.
  • If we’re serving others at the pickup table, please form a line in the designated area (appropriately distanced) at the main entrance.
  • At the pickup table, please give staff the account name that you are picking up. Items will be ready for each appointment time.
  • Please let staff set the items on the table to ensure service is contact-free.

Barkley holds are at the Central Library.

Fairhaven holds are at the Central Library.

BTC, WCC, & WWU holds are at the Central Library.

  • We’re accepting returns through the outdoor book returns at the Fairhaven Branch and Barkley Branch.
  • We’re quarantining returned items for 24 hours before our staff check them in. 

We’re currently not accepting book donations. We’re excited for when we can safely do so again.
