Board of Trustees

Purpose

The Bellingham Public Library Board of Trustees is the governing body of the library, responsible for establishing library policy and overall direction, overseeing the library’s budget, and representing and advocating for the library to the community. The Board of Trustees also hire and oversee the library director, who is responsible for the administration of the library. The Board is composed of five volunteer members appointed by the Mayor of Bellingham with the approval of the Bellingham City Council. The term of office for Trustees is five years.

Regular meetings of Board of Trustees are typically held monthly, with additional special meetings as needed. See the meeting schedule below for specific dates and locations. The Board of Trustees conducts its meetings and other business in accordance with the Washington State Open Meetings and Public Records acts. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
