We Share A Story 2008:

An International Literacy Connection

The We Share A Story 2008 story to be shared is:

Somewhere Today: A
Book of Peace

by Shelley Moore Thomas

We Share A Story is an innovative program offering students around the world an opportunity to share a chosen book and then connect with each other through "sister school" relationships. Twenty-two schools in 12 countries are involved in this exchange.

Each of the 22 schools worldwide will receive and read
Somewhere Today: A Book of Peace.
Each participating classroom will then prepare a classroom introduction packet to share with their "sister schools" around the world. This packet could include drawings, letters, postcards, photographs or other items of interest to children in a faraway land. The goal is to have the books in all the schools by International Education Week, November 17-23.

All schools are encouraged to continue their "sister school" relationships with continued letter or email exchanges.

Created in 2002, We Share A Story is a literacy project originating in Bellingham, Washington through cooperative efforts of the Bellingham Children's Library and the Bellingham Public School District. We Share A Story is celebrated annually during International Education Week and honors the role stories play in all lives.
