We Share A Story 2005:
An International Literacy Connection...
Down Under!

Bethany (Bellingham Public Library) and Sandy (Pierce County Library System) visited Port Stephens, Australia in March 2006. With them, they brought 1700 Rainbow Serpent scales decorated by children in Bellingham (WA), Pierce County (WA), California, Idaho, Tateyama (Japan) and Nakhodka (Russia).

Sandy and Bethany, with the help of Port Stephens Councillor Geoff Robinson, visited four schools in the Port Stephens area. At each school, Australian school children helped them create an international Rainbow Serpent to display at their school. In total, 2500 scales created the serpents!

THANK YOU to everyone who decorated a Rainbow Serpent scale! Can you believe your scale was taken to Australia and is still down there, on one of the Rainbow Serpents?! Can you see your scale in any of the pictures?
