The Bellingham Public Library belongs to all of us. There are several ways you can be a part of this community treasure.
Give your time
The Bellingham Public Library invites and welcomes teen and adult volunteers with five Volunteer Opportunities.
Or, join the Friends of the Bellingham Public Library and meet others like you who are passionate about the library. The Friends support library programs and services through their volunteer and fund-raising activities, providing a financial boost to the library. Each year, the Friends donate over $70,000 towards children’s programs, library furnishings, new materials, computer workstations and many other projects.
Give your books
Clear off your bookshelves to make room for new titles – and bring your gently used books, audiobooks, music CDs and DVDs to the Central Library for the Friends of the Bellingham Public Library to sell at their used book sales. Proceeds benefit the library. Have boxes of books but no way to transport them to the Central Library? The Friends have a list of volunteers who you may call to arrange to pick them up at your home.
Give a donation
Honor a friend or loved one with a memorial book or make a donation to one of the Bellingham Public Library Funds held at the Whatcom Community Foundation. You may also wish to consider designating a planned gift in your estate. All donations are tax-deductible.
You can make a donation online via credit or debit card.

Give your talent
Every year, Bellingham Public Library hosts hundreds of programs for people of all ages. Many of these programs are presented by local experts who share their knowledge with others in our community. If you have an idea for a program, and are willing to present it, free of charge, please fill out a Co-Sponsored Program Proposal form. Due to the limited availability of meeting room space and staff time to coordinate programs, we are selective about the programs we choose to co-sponsor. Our Program Committee meets monthly to review proposals. A minimum lead time of three months is preferred to review the proposal, reserve a meeting room, and publicize the program. Thank you for your interest!
