Whatcom READS! inspires local quilt challenge

Read the book and be inspired to quilt!

This fall Fourth Corner Quilts is sponsoring a unique quilting challenge inspired by the 2014 Whatcom READS! book Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. Quilters of all ages are encouraged to read Strayed’s book and create a quilt that reflects the issues, themes, and locations it presents.

Participants may submit quilts to Fourth Corner Quilts, 1844 State St., during regular store hours. All quilts are due January 16, 2014. Submitted quilts will be displayed at participating Whatcom READS! partner organizations during the month of February 2014. More information, special challenge fabric, and free entry packets are available at Fourth Corner Quilts.

Whatcom READS! is a community-wide reading and discussion program that encourages all Whatcom County residents to read the same book to create a county-wide book club experience. This year’s selection, Wild, by Strayed, is available at your local library or for purchase at Village Books, who is donating 10% of the purchase price to Whatcom READS!

This event is made possible, in part, through a Spark Grant from Humanities Washington. For more about Whatcom READS!, visit For more information about this challenge, please contact Julie Menkee at Fourth Corner Quilts at 360-714-0070.
