BARKLEY AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT ON BRENDA MILLER

Essayist Brenda Miller will speak Tuesday, September 29 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. as part of the Barkley Author Spotlight at the Barkley Branch of the Bellingham Public Library. Her latest collection, "Blessing of the Animals" includes two essays that won the prestigious Pushcart Prize. Each essay is like a conversation, about topics ranging from new dogs to old stained glass, a walk in Portland’s Japanese Garden to a sojourn in Jerusalem, model airplanes to Magic 8 Balls.

Miller is an Associate Professor of English at Western Washington University and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Bellingham Review.

Copies of Miller’s books will be available for purchase after her presentation. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Bellingham Public Library.

The Barkley Author Spotlight is co-sponsored by the Bellingham Public Library and Whatcom Writers and Publishers, a professional organization dedicated to promoting the written word through fiction or nonfiction. For a complete listing of upcoming WWP events, visit http://whatcomwritepub.org/ .

Jo Dereske, author of the beloved "Miss Zukas" mystery series, will be speaking Wednesday, October 14 for the last Barkley Author Spotlight event of the year. The program is being eliminated due to budget cuts at the Bellingham Public Library, so the public is encouraged to attend these last two events while they can.

The Barkley Branch Library is located at 3111 Newmarket Street, Suite 103 in the Drake Building in Barkley Village. From Woburn Street, turn north at the light on Barkley Boulevard towards the Barkley Haggen, then left on Newmarket Street, away from Haggen. The Drake Building is the second building on the left. Normal open hours at the Barkley Branch Library are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m., and Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information, call the Barkley Branch at 360-778-7290 or visit www.bellinghampubliclibrary.org .
